Rothbury House Tom Brown

Tom Brown, a prospective resident of the RAF Association’s Rothbury House retirement accommodation, joined the RAF as an apprentice engineer, looking for excitement at the age of 18. After two years of service, he’d made friends for life.

“I made many lifelong friends and we held annual group holidays. Sadly there are only three of us left and we aren’t able to get together as often as we would like.

Even just visiting Rothbury to look round the new retirement homes has given me a chance to meet new, likeminded people. Straight away you can have a conversation about your experiences of the RAF with people from the South of England to Scotland.

“For the likes of myself, and many others, Rothbury House will keep the memories going.”

I was diagnosed with cancer twice. I had treatment and it is now in remission, but as a result I run out of energy quickly. The possibility of moving to Rothbury House has given me a really good lift and the staff and residents are fantastic company.

If I get a permanent independent-living place at Rothbury, I’ll jump for joy!
