Work has started on Bader House, a new retirement accommodation complex for RAF veterans in Eastbourne, after we awarded the contract to local firm Colbran & Wingrove.
The independent family-run building contractor specialises in commercial and residential projects for private clients, business owners and developers.
Russell Colbran, Managing Director at Colbran & Wingrove, said: "As an Eastbourne-based company, we're delighted to be involved in this project, helping bring new life and purpose to a much-loved and iconic building in the heart of our town. We're incredibly proud to be working with the Association to deliver much-needed accommodation for veterans and their families, supporting those who have served our country.
"As we look ahead to celebrating our own 60th anniversary in 2027, it's especially meaningful to be part of a project that honours the rich history of both this landmark building and the Association, while creating a lasting legacy for future generations."
Colbran & Wingrove will convert the former RAF Association clubhouse on Wish Road into ten self-contained flats for RAF veterans and their spouses, widows or widowers aged 60 and over, each with their own bathroom, living, dining and kitchen areas.
Mark Shields, Head of Community Accommodation at the RAF Association, said: "We are delighted to be working with Russell and his team at Colbran & Wingrove. We were keen to work with a local contractor on this project, which we hope will benefit the RAF community in Eastbourne and beyond for years to come."
Bader House was gifted to us by the Eastbourne Branch Club when it closed in 2023 and will allow RAF veterans and their spouses to maintain their independence, while living in a tight-knit community who share an RAF connection.
Bader House will join five existing accommodation complexes managed by the RAF Association across the UK. In return for an affordable monthly rent, RAF veterans and their spouses, widows or widowers can enjoy thoughtfully developed, self-contained flats, while onsite managers take care of day-to-day matters.
