The RAF Associations’ RAFA Rides is a cycling event like no other. Participation isn't just about the miles covered, it's about the powerful stories behind each pedal, the hearts behind the wheels.

Cyclists joined us to honour loved ones, inspire others, and raise awareness of the associations' work for those who have, and still do, serve in the RAF.

Scroll down to watch and listen to some of our amazing cyclists and the reasons why they chose to join us and support RAFA Rides 2025.

I rode for health

On New Years Eve 2023, Chris Watts decided to address his health that had declined since Covid lockdown by getting out on his bike. Chris lost an incredible 7 stone and decided to challenge himself to RAFA Rides 2025.

“18 months ago, never did I think I’d do a 50-mile bike ride by myself, there was such great company out there today”.

We rode for friendship

At RAFA Rides Brize Norton, a group of 20 riders got together to complete 100 miles in memory of their friend and colleague Squadron Leader Gordon Parry who sadly passed away in March 2025.

One of Gordon's main passions in his life was cycling, he completed multiple charity bike rides over several distances and was always keen on getting fellow Service Personnel out on their bikes over lunch or to a spinning session.

After the ride, we caught up with Gordon's wife Jenny and long-time friend and colleague Leigh to talk about what the day would have meant to Gordon.

I rode for my family

Ajminder Sandhu took part in RAFA Rides at Kendrew Barracks by riding 100 miles in memory of his late cousin in order to give something back to the RAF Association.

Ajminder also works as Head of Online Trading at Tesco and very kindly helped facilitate the supply of water and refreshments at the feed stations at the RAFA Rides events.

As a passionate member of the Sikh Cycling Club, Ajminder also spoke about getting more members of the Sikh community involved in cycling to help improve both their mental and physical wellbeing.
