International Women's Day provides us with the opportunity to reflect and appreciate the outstanding work put in by women across the RAFA network and highlight the vital role they play in the Association's success.
'Accelerate Action' is the International Women's Day theme for 2025 so we spoke to two individuals who have made significant contributions to RAFA over several years and whose efforts have empowered members of all genders and ages.
Last year, RAFAKidz Cranwell's Bo Forster was named Nursery Room Leader of the Year at the National NMT Nursery Awards, recognising her contribution to learning in the early years sector and the positive difference she makes to children's lives.
Bo was quick to point out that while the award filled her with pride, it is seeing children's development on a daily basis that gives her the most satisfaction when she sits down to reflect on her achievements.
"Winning the award was a real honour and meant so much to me," she said.
"For the past seven years, I've been lucky enough to work at RAFAKidz Cranwell, a place that feels like home. Being recognised in a job I care so deeply about makes this award even more meaningful.
"The recognition reflects the hard work I put in every day, but it's also about the incredible support from my team and the trust of the families I work with. It reminds me why I love what I do—helping create a space where children can feel safe, grow, and enjoy learning.
"I feel proud and grateful to be able to do what I love and be part of a role that shapes young lives in such a positive way."

Warrant Officer Louise Calvert was named RAFALO of the Year in 2024, for her tenacity, commitment and overall outstanding contribution to the Association.
WO Calvert is proud of her achievements as a RAFALO and hopes that her work on behalf of the Association is continuing to make a material difference to the lives of both serving and veteran personnel.
She said: "Currently serving at RAF Waddington, my role as a Snr RAFALO typically involves motivating and recruiting others to the cause, organising and supporting local fundraising events and remembrance services and events.
"My work also includes encouraging others to join the committee, helping to build a larger network of individuals that are motivated to embrace the values of RAFA and raise awareness of the benefits it can provide.
"Engaging with my peers is a very rewarding part of my involvement with RAFA, especially with veterans and their families.
"Often when fundraising, just having a conversation and allowing people to reminisce about either their personal time in the military or members of their family who served, gives me great satisfaction that you're doing something valuable.
"I feel immensely proud when I represent the RAF and the Association at any informal or formal functions. Knowing the time and effort I commit to the Association will help others is enough motivation to continue and support in any way I can."
We are extremely grateful to both Bo and Louise for their efforts in helping the Association and as International Women's Day comes around, we'd like to thank all the women whose dedication and enthusiasm helps improve the lives of our members.
