Dr Pattison was awarded a National Presidential Certificate and was also made a Life Vice President of the RAF Association in 2022, in recognition of his lifelong dedication to the Association, between his many years work as Vice Chairman of Council and as Chairman of Swiss Branch.
Outside the RAF Association, the majority of Dr Pattison's life was spent studying cosmic rays and high energy particle interactions, first at university and then at CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. He measured the intensity of muons and detected neutrino interactions deep underground (7,600 ft) in the Kolar gold mines and participated in many experiments during his CERN career. His move to university was put on hold in 1956 for National Service in the RAF, as a corporal drill instructor in Technical Training Command. He was posted to Padgate, Bridgnorth and Brampton.

After National Service he began his scientific career, joining the RAF Association's Swiss Branch in 1980. Bryan became involved with the European Area Council as vice chairman in 1989, serving two terms as chairman, as well as six years as Area President. Bryan also served as an Elected Member of Council from 1998 until 2021, sitting on various committees, and served as vice- chairman from 2007 to 2021. He was known for his thoughtful debates at Council and at Annual Conferences.

He was awarded the OBE in the 2003 New Year Honours List for services to British interests in Switzerland.
