RAF Boulmer join Rothbury House for a Christmas lunch
On 10 December, serving personnel from RAF Boulmer visited Rothbury House where they got straight to work serving food, before sitting down to share a delicious Christmas meal and chatting with the residents.
This was a wonderful way to bring the residents together and celebrate the festive season early, complete with crackers and mulled wine.
Rothbury House manager David Dick said: “We were thrilled to welcome personnel from RAF Boulmer. It was a pleasure watching our residents, many of whom are veterans themselves, chat with those currently serving in the RAF. It was a chance for everyone to share stories and memories with like-minded people who speak their language. It was the perfect way to start the festive season.”
Rothbury House is a retirement accommodation complex managed by the RAF Association. Located in the heart of Northumberland’s countryside, it enables residents to retain independence while living among like-minded people who share an RAF connection. Carefully designed and set among rolling green hills, the house is just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful village of Rothbury and has a variety of purpose-built suites available.

Christmas gifts sent to 156 residents from teams at Verizon and MBDA
For the second year running, staff from MBDA provided a gift for residents in Rothbury House, Lord Tedder and Malcolm Courts in Northumberland, and Dowding House in Moffat, Scotland.
On top of this, teams from Verizon, again, organised gifts for veterans at RAFA Housing Ltd in West Sussex (Storrington) and Wexford House in Leicestershire.
Cate Driscoll, Head of Partnerships and Events at the Association said: “Once again, we can’t thank enough the volunteer staff who sourced, bought, wrapped and delivered these delightful festive gift boxes. Their generous acts continue to bring smiles to so many RAF veterans’ faces, and the joy always lasts well into the new year.”
Kenneth Saunders, a resident at Rothbury House, said the gift boxes are: “Fantastic. A lovely surprise.” David Bryan described the arrival of the gifts as: “Marvellous. I really enjoy it. They are full of very good quality items.” The boxes contain a range of gifts from candles and gloves to biscuits and hot water bottles and are delivered in person by volunteers from each company.
