We’re thrilled that two long-term supporters of the RAF Association have been recognised in the King’s New Year Honours list.

Air Commodore Alan Opie, who serves as a Trustee with the Association, has been named Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

Alan also sits on the Welfare Committee and previously chaired the Safeguarding Committee.

RAF Association Ambassador Hon Gp Capt Duncan Barber FRAeS was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to the defence industry.

Duncan’s impressive career in the aviation industry began 40 years ago when he founded the small business, AMSS Ltd, in 1978.

AMSS Ltd went on become one of the largest family enterprises in Europe, specialising in the design and manufacture of military and civilian aircraft Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and supplying around 100,000 individual items worldwide.

Duncan is also a volunteer in the RAF Association’s Connections for Life service, providing friendship and support to those in need within the RAF community.

In total over 100 personnel across the Royal Navy, Army and RAF have been recognised in the 2024 New Year Honours for their commendable service and commitment.
