Lechlade Duck Race is back – go quackers on the Thames and raise money for the RAF Association!

25 September 2021 will see the welcome return of the Lechlade Duck Race. This annual event has become a popular local attraction and promises to be a great day out for all the family.

Organised by personnel from RAF Brize Norton, the Lechlade Duck Race will see 6,000 rubber ducks heading down river. The sponsor of the winning duck with receive a £300 prize, with lots of other prizes being awarded on the day.

As well as the main event, there will be live music, stalls selling all manner of things, fun fair rides, farm animals, food, drinks, sweets and ice creams.

Sg Mike Bevan from 99sqn at RAF Brize Norton, who is the Project Officer for the Lechlade Duck Race said:

“We can expect a fun filled day for all the family with a community feel, with lots of different entertainments, stalls, food and drink, and obviously lots of ducks and it is a great way of getting everyone out and together again after what has been happening over the last few months.

We are supporting the RAF Association because it is our charity, you never know when you are going to need them, whether it is for a friend or a colleague, or someone who has served in the past.  Ensuring that we can provide support for the RAF community with this event ensures that that support is then there for us when we need it and also to support all the generations from the kids through to veterans.”

Local companies also get involved by sponsoring and decorating corporate ducks and the Lechlade Duck Race team are working closely with the Cotswolds Lake Trust to ensure that all the racing ducks are safely collected after the race.

Event sponsors include Bloor Homes and Arkells Brewery.
