Chinook 40 – celebrating 40 years uninterrupted service by the Chinook CH-47 helicopter.

We speak to Flight Sergeant Liz McConaghy about her love at first sight of the aircraft, and her record-breaking service on it.  At 21 , Liz was the youngest Chinook aircrew to see action – serving in Iraq.  She was also the longest-serving female Chinook aircrew member on 18(B) Squadron.   Much of her time was spent on MERT in Iraq and Afghanistan – the Medical Emergency Response Teams. She talks of her pride in her service and the honour, excitement and dark moments that came with working on the iconic helicopter.  Association members who subscribe to Air Mail magazine will be able to read more about Chinook 40, and the aircraft’s history, teams and engineering in the July-September issue of the magazine.
