The RAF Association was sad to learn of the death of Bomber Command veteran Flight Lieutenant John Edward Taylor DFC, aged 98.

John joined the RAF in 1942 and trained as a navigator on Lancasters, serving with 50 Squadron. He completed 34 operations during the war and received a recommendation for commission and a Distinguished Flying Cross.

Following the war, he was posted to India to serve in Transport Command. He left the RAF in 1946 and went on to become a teacher, after deciding his former career as a chemist wasn’t for him. He finally spent 20 years as a headmaster at Sale Moor High School, as it was then called.

Our thoughts are with John’s family and friends at this sad time.
