Aviation enthusiasts are being given the chance to bid for a unique drinks trolley, upcycled from a commercial airliner, to raise money for a good cause.

DappR Aviation, which operates from a workshop in Suffolk, creates stools, tables, benches, clocks and a range of other household items out of aircraft parts that would otherwise end up on the scrapheap.

The family firm has designed and created the item based on an upcycled food and beverage trolley normally seen on commercial flights. The lacquered trolley features a pull-out chopping board, shelving and space for half a dozen bottles, plus drinks cans and glasses.

It has been listed on eBay, to end on #CharityTuesday (December 3rd), with the proceeds donated to the RAF Association, the charity that supports the welfare of the RAF family.

Company founder David Palmer first came up with the idea in 2014 with his daughter Emily, a graduate in furniture design, after being given the fuselage of an Airbus A320 to recycle.

David said: “We originally recycled IT equipment, but the Airbus made us realise the huge potential in upcycling aviation parts into things people might want to have in their homes.

“Emily had just graduated with first class honours, and she set to work using her skills to design pieces from bits of the Airbus. We haven’t looked back since.”

Over the past five years the company has created pieces from Vulcan bombers, Gazelle helicopters, Boeing 737s and even parts from decommissioned Tornados.

Neil MacDonald, Director of DappR Aviation said: “My father-in-law had a long career in the RAF, and was commanding officer of IV Squadron in Gütersloh, Germany. Because of this, I’ve seen first-hand the valuable work and support offered by the RAF Association to serving RAF personnel, veterans and their families.”
