A husband and wife team from Lincoln are raising money for the RAF Association after both securing places on the ballot for this year’s London Marathon.

Former RAF Corporal, Rick Crowther, and his wife, Lou, a teaching consultant, will be tackling the 26.2 mile challenge together in the capital on 28 April.

“I’ve already completed the London Marathon twice before,” said Lou (50) originally from Leeds, “but Rick’s never done it himself, so we’ve been training together and I’ve been giving him tips! We just happened to get our ballots together, so we both decided to raise money for the same cause.”

Rick, who served 22 years in the RAF at various locations including Cyprus, is now a volunteer befriender for the RAF Association, and the pair are hoping to raise at least £1000, towards our vital welfare work.

Rick (51), also originally from Leeds, said,

“I’ve got a lot of friends in the RAF who have benefitted from the welfare services offered by the Association, and maybe in the future I will too. I thought I’d try raising funds by running the marathon, and I’m quietly confident I’ll be able to win it!”

The pair will be two of 20 runners raising funds for the RAF Association, all of whom will all be able to meet at the RAF Club in London after they complete the marathon. Showers, fluffy towels and massages will be available to aid their recovery.
